❝ I have felt very fortunate to have found FDAMH and the Social Prescribing service has been a great lifeline. I was struggling to adjust to my new area and to cope being out in the community. My practitioner has been amazing, very helpful & supportive from start to finish. It can be difficult for me to communicate and express myself…she always gave me the time to gather my thoughts and put them into words.❞
Our Team
We spoke with our Social Prescribing Manager, Selena Watson, to find out more about the service and her experience working within the service.
From your experience, what is your favourite part about working within the Social Prescribing service at FDAMH?
Without a doubt providing personalised support and seeing the positive changes people make to improve their lives has to be the best part about working in the Social Prescribing Service. Sometimes people attend with little hope and then build resilience as we work together to improve psychological and social wellbeing.
Why do you think it’s important for people to have access to mental wellbeing services like Social Prescribing?
Access to services is essential to prevent mental wellbeing deteriorating, to offer support when it’s too overwhelming to manage on your own and to improve quality of life. It’s vital that people feel listened to, and we can provide that confidential space to work through the issues that people may be facing.
What advice would you give to someone who may be experiencing reduced mental wellbeing?
This may not feel like the right time to want to talk but keep in mind that services at FDAMH will always be there for you when you do feel ready. Consider activities that you have perhaps fallen away from doing that have helped in the past like walking, talking to a friend, reading. Self-care is also important, and this includes getting a good sleep routine, increasing physical movement, and eating regular meals. If these strategies feel like too much to think about, get in touch and we can work with you to help you self-manage your mental wellbeing.
