What is Family & Carers Support?

Building Relationships

The Family Service offers practical and emotional support to families that feel they are struggling with mental health issues, promoting wellbeing and preventing deterioration in the mental health of family members.

Trusting relationships is at the heart of our support and the service builds on individual and family strengths to support recovery. We offer tools and strategies to develop understanding, explore and manage feelings, and gain confidence to cope with change and major life events.

Caring Together

Our Carers Service supports people who are caring for loved ones experiencing mental health issues or whose own mental health is being impacted by their caring role. The service aims to increase confidence in the role of a carer and to offer strategies to protect one’s own wellbeing.

We have a Carers counsellor offering one-to-one emotional support as well as a 6-week Carers Education course to raise awareness and support the following:

  • Mental health awareness
  • Recognizing and managing stress
  • Assertiveness
  • Coping with loss
  • Dealing with feelings of anger
  • Ways of supporting and communicating with someone in mental distress
  • Sharing experiences

Our Family and Carers team works closely with our Young Person’s Service. When needed these approaches give rounded support that meets the needs of young people and their family unit to achieve the best chance of a successful outcome for all.
